Hawai‘i was annexed by the U.S. in 1898, under questionable conditions. It was assigned statehood in 1959, also under questionable conditions.
Thus, if there are any residual issues that residents of Hawai‘i feel deserve to be addressed, the People of Hawai‘i are encouraged to reach a united, formal decision on this matter. Consideration must be given to the opinions of those who were living on the islands prior to being assigned U.S. statehood in 1959 or as direct descendants of those resident prior to being annexed.
